Is the Mormon baptism of the dead based on 1 Corinthians 15:29?

I don't know much about Mormonism, but they recommend baptism of the dead, etc., and say it is an indispensable tradition that characterizes the true church. But to put it bluntly, Paul never said anything about baptizing the dead. Baptism, as I have said before, is a rite for those who are "baptized into Christ's death, that is, martyred.

Rethinking Translation Errors and the Greek Language

The Greek preposition hyper, translated "for" or "on behalf of," also means "for the purpose of"; the KJV translates it into English as for, which is also very ambiguous and can be taken in a variety of ways.

This is why perverting Paul's letter leads to the interpretation that we should baptize corpses like the Mormons do. Of course, I do not mean to insult the Mormons, and I am not saying that they cannot be saved because of their misinterpretation, as salvation will be offered to faithful people during the Great Tribulation. Many Mormons are devout.

1 Corinthians 15:29 Otherwise, what will they do who are baptized for the dead, if the dead do not rise at all? Why then are they baptized for the dead?

Consideration should be given to whether the reception of the phrase simply "baptism for the dead" is properly aligned with the rest of Scripture. The Bible ties baptism directly to "baptism of death," a statement of readiness for martyrdom, or dying to the old personality, or burying the past through water baptism, the essence of which is to die to the ego, and to be literally martyred and drink the cup of Christ.

The Bible is full of metaphors, and Paul's letters are so prone to them that Peter even stated that some people pervert his letters and invite destruction. We should carefully survey the Bible to see what we can learn from the charismatic intellect of Paul!

Romans 6:3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?

Philippians 3 :10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,

Colossians 2 :12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

It is no longer just these verses, but it is easy to glean from the various epistles written by Paul that Paul's stated intention was baptism for the dead. Baptism for the dead is a rite for dying to the old personality and still literally a statement of intention for those who are to be martyred.

Rebuke to the Corinthians who doubted the resurrection

Paul knew that the Corinthians were spiritually immature in their doubts about the resurrection and in their abuse of speaking in tongues. He rebuked them in his letter.

1 Corinthians 15:12 Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. 15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up--if in fact the dead do not rise. 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.

Some believe that the dead in baptism for the dead represents Jesus Christ, which is a fairly natural interpretation. In context, they question why anyone would be baptized for the dead (Jesus Christ) if there is no resurrection.

The Corinthians were a very spiritually weak church in the midst of the extremes of unbelief, including the abuse of tongues, lewdness, no resurrection of the dead, etc. Paul rebukes them many times. It is obvious and natural conversation. He's asking why they were baptized if they didn't believe in Jesus, and why they were baptized for mere dead ones who hadn't risen from the dead. This view is enough to convey the intent.

1 Corinthians 15 :28 Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all. 29 Otherwise, what will they do who are baptized for the dead, if the dead do not rise at all? Why then are they baptized for the dead?

It is by no means a scripture intended to baptize in place of the dead or baptize corpses. It is impossible for ordinary people to understand Paul's letters. I urge everyone to pay close attention when reading Paul's letters, whether it is speaking in tongues or baptizing the dead. Paul is preaching against the Corinthians who, while using a language that is wrapped in an oblique manner to avoid being sarcastic, clearly speaks against bad practices (abuse of tongues without translation in the church) and the Corinthians who say that Jesus has not been resurrected from the dead.

To Mormonism and the General Church

Mormonism has been taken a bit the wrong way. I have nothing further to say about Mormons. In contrast, the general Babylonian church members insist that they will not even be persecuted, much less martyred, and that they will be the first to be resurrected to heaven unharmed.

Paul's letters are especially full of sacred depths, so if you read them wrong or give priority to your own fleshly desires, you may end up with a ridiculous interpretation.

2 Peter 3 :16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.

People don't understand the meaning of baptism. You underestimate the words of the Bible by disregarding the baptism of death, the drinking of Christ's cup, that is, the life of literal martyrdom in death to the old personality. Please re-read Jeremiah 23 for all the false prophets and pastors who zealously propagate the false teachings.
